ABOUT

Halima is a recent art graduate from the University of Reading. She is a mixed media artist, who predominantly works with textiles, fashion, printmaking and sculpture but has recently enjoyed incorporating them with video, sound and animation. She is drawn to patterns and motifs in which she blends with other cultural iconographies whilst focusing on her identity, belonging and place. Previous works have focused on the idea of invisibility and visibility in spaces, particularly her Muslim identity. She is also fascinated by the notion of utopia and dystopia, its connection to the destruction and construction of places and land. She aims to prompt viewers to think about global matters such as the conflicts between the East and West and environmental issues e.g. the Anthropocene era.
